Columbus, Ohio — Columbus is preparing for one of the country’s largest Independence Day celebrations as Red, White & BOOM! returns to downtown on Friday, July 3, 2026. The annual event combines a street festival, parade, live entertainment, military tributes, and Ohio’s largest fireworks display as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration.

Columbus Red, White & BOOM! Schedule

The official festival begins at 11:00 a.m. along the Scioto Mile, where visitors will find food vendors, beverages, family activities, sponsor exhibits, and entertainment throughout the day. Live music starts at noon on the Bicentennial Park Stage.

One of the day’s biggest traditions is the Ford Oval of Honor Parade, which begins at 6:30 p.m. from the Main Street Bridge and travels through downtown Columbus before concluding near the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

The evening concludes with the famous Red, White & BOOM! Fireworks Show, beginning at 10:00 p.m. over the Scioto River. Organizers say the display lasts approximately 25 minutes and finishes with the signature BOOM! Grand Finale.

Fireworks Start Time

Fireworks officially begin at 10:00 p.m.

According to the event organizers, the fireworks are launched from Genoa Park, located on the east side of COSI, and are fired over the Scioto River, creating spectacular views across downtown Columbus.

Best Places to Watch the Fireworks

Bicentennial Park

One of the official recommended viewing locations, Bicentennial Park provides front-row views of the fireworks while also hosting live entertainment throughout the day.

Scioto Mile

The Scioto Mile remains the heart of the celebration and offers some of the city’s most popular fireworks viewing areas.

Battelle Riverfront Park

Located along the river, this park offers wide-open views of the fireworks launch area and is one of the official recommended viewing locations.

Dorrian Green

Visitors looking for extra space often choose Dorrian Green, another official viewing recommendation located near the Scioto Mile.

Parking and Transportation

Because more than 400,000 people attend the event, downtown traffic becomes extremely busy.

Organizers recommend using COTA Park & Ride service, which operates buses to the event between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., with return trips running from 10:30 p.m. until midnight.

Drivers should also expect numerous street closures beginning during the afternoon. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., many downtown streets surrounding the Scioto Mile and fireworks zone close until midnight. Handicap-accessible parking is available on designated downtown streets.

The Ohio Statehouse Underground Parking Garage also offers event parking, though visitors are encouraged to arrive early because surrounding streets will be closed.

Why Columbus Stands Out in 2026

Since 1981, Red, White & BOOM! has grown into the largest single-day event in Columbus and one of the biggest Independence Day festivals in the country. The celebration combines military tributes, live entertainment, family activities, a downtown parade, and one of the Midwest’s largest fireworks displays.

With the United States celebrating its 250th anniversary, the 2026 edition is expected to draw another massive crowd to Downtown Columbus, making it one of Ohio’s premier Fourth of July destinations.

Whether you spend the day along the Scioto Mile, enjoy the parade downtown, or settle into Bicentennial Park for the evening, Columbus delivers one of the country’s most impressive Independence Day experiences.
