The body of a woman from Colorado was found in January. The county’s coroner decided that she had been killed, and one of her family members may be responsible.
Corrye Brewer, 97, went missing on January 25 while visiting with her family. This caused the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to send out a senior alert at the time. When the CBI talked about Brewer, they said that the grandmother “suffered from a cognitive impairment which may affect her memory.” This made her even more exposed in the very cold weather.
After two days, dead bodies were found near a Calhan, Colorado, crossroads. The body was later found to be Brewer’s.
After several months, on April 9, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office released the results of Brewer’s autopsy. They found that she had been killed. According to the report, Brewer died of hypothermia because he was “intentionally left in the cold without any way to return home, get to adequate shelter, or call for help.” The report was obtained by the local CBS station KKTV.
KKTV reported on the coroner’s results, which said that Brewer was left at an empty house in the area by her own daughter. The old woman was left alone and didn’t have her walker or phone with her.
According to the report, it was windy and cold at the house on the night of January 24, when Brewer was reportedly brought there. It snowed that night, and the temperature dropped. According to KXRM’s coverage of the coroner’s results, Brewer was found dead on the same property a few days later.
Some of Brewer’s living family members talked to KCNC, a local CBS station, about the fighting in the family, including with the relatives the grandmother was staying with at the time. Shari Robinson, Brewer’s granddaughter, told KCNC, “We just want it to be known.” We hope that someone will take the time to explain things to her family now that she is gone.
No one has been blamed for Brewer’s death. KKTV said that the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was still looking into the case, and the District Attorney will also look it over.
