Despite playing for the Celtics for eight seasons and helping them win a championship in 2008, Kendrick Perkins was not invited to the team’s victory parade the previous year.

In a recent episode of former Celtics guard Jeff Teague’s Club 520 podcast, Celtics governor Wyc Grousbeck gave an explanation of the decision.

Grousbeck stated, “It’s true that he wasn’t invited to our parade last year because he had been giving people a lot of [expletive].” Family members of athletes told me that we weren’t in the parade if that person was. Well, all right, you win, I said.

Perkins, who is currently an ESPN analyst, has no qualms about stirring up controversy within the Celtics organization. In January 2024, he criticized Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla harshly.

In those days, Perkins claimed that they had two Joe Mazzullas. We are going to get up more threes than you, according to their philosophy. He looks fantastic when they hit them. Then there’s Joe Mazzulla, the other one, who just stands there and you wonder. A bird will begin to fly backwards if his brain is removed and placed inside it. Joe Mazzulla, you got that.

Later that month, Mazzulla brought up Perkins’ remarks at a press conference.

Perkins stated that Jayson Tatum appeared extremely frightened during the 2022 NBA Finals, which the Celtics ultimately lost to Golden State.

Last June, Perkins referred to Brian Scalabrine, a former teammate and current NBC Sports Boston analyst, as a coward after Scalabrine stated that Perkins’ connection with the current Celtics is not truly an open arms situation.

According to Perkins, he was quite busy and would have declined an offer nine times out of ten.

Paul Pierce and Scalabrine were among the former teammates of Perkins who attended the procession.
