When some of her coworkers tried to enforce a restraining order on an off-duty North Andover police officer earlier this week, the officer was shot and injured.
New information is now coming to light regarding the officer’s fiancé’s statement that prior to the incident, he feared for his life as well as the lives of their child.
The restraining order was for the injured officer, Kelsey Fitzsimmons. Fitzsimmons posed a risk to herself, her fiancé, and their young kid, according to court documents he submitted when he requested the order last week.
For a very long time, Kelsey is threatening to take the baby far, far away. She has already discussed suicide in this manner. In the application, which was submitted to the Essex County Probate and Family Court, he stated, “I fear that she will kill the baby at any moment.” During her pregnancy, she regularly struck her tummy, threatening to murder both herself and the unborn child.
Since last spring, Fitzsimmons, 28, has been employed by the North Andover Police Department. Three additional NAPD officers showed up at her Phillips Brooks Road residence on Monday to serve the restraining order while she was on administrative leave.
According to Essex District Attorney Paul Tucker, an armed conflict erupted earlier this week while one of the on-duty cops was transporting her. Fitzsimmons was struck when one of the officers discharged their weapon. As of Tuesday morning, she remained in stable condition after being transported by air to a hospital in the Boston region.
Fitzsimmons’ fianc stated that she is an officer with a carry license in his application for the restraining order. Regarding [Fitzsimmons’] response to be served, he voiced reservations.
He explained how last week, while they were in Maine, Fitzsimmons hit him with a closed hand. He claimed to be afraid for his life and went to a motel to stay. Her friends called the police in Methuen, North Andover, and Bethel, Maine. At one occasion, Fitzsimmons’ parents claimed they didn’t care what manic state she was in and stole the baby from her fiancé in the middle of the night.
He wrote, “I’m afraid she’ll kill the baby if she doesn’t have me because she’s said nothing is worth living for except me.”
Fitzsimmons’ armed status at the time of the altercation with the other police has not been disclosed by the authorities. The restraining order required her to turn over any weapons to the police.
Records in Lawrence District Court show that Fitzsimmons was refused her Firearms Identification Card earlier this year. She reportedly tried to get her card reinstated by filing a petition for relief, but she withdrew it last week.
She was involuntarily admitted to Lowell General Hospital for 12 hours in March to receive treatment for postpartum depression, according to records that The Boston Globe was able to obtain. She turned in her department-issued gun as well as at least one personal pistol.
She was seeing a psychiatrist in addition to her therapist. According to the Globe, she was given the all-clear to resume her job on June 18. It’s unknown if she got her firearms back.
Fitzsimmons is subject to the restraining order until at least July 14.
The shooting is still being investigated by Tucker’s office. Fitzsimmons is not facing any criminal charges, according to the authorities.
