Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients nationwide are preparing for more spending on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Black Friday as the holiday season draws near. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced changes for 2025, including a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), to help recipients manage their budgets. This is what you should know.
SSI Payment in Advance
Because December 1 comes on a non-business day, the SSA has planned for the December SSI payment to be paid early, on November 29, 2024. This guarantees that beneficiaries can immediately receive their benefits.
Extra Payment for December
SSI beneficiaries will not receive their next payment on January 1, 2025, a federal holiday, but rather on December 31, 2024. The November 29 payment is the second-to-last check for 2024 because this early payment is meant to cover January expenses.
Payment Schedule | Date |
December SSI Payment | November 29, 2024 |
January SSI Payment (Early) | December 31, 2024 |

Payment in Advance
Recipients can budget for holiday shopping and other end-of-year expenses with the early SSI payments in November and December. To guarantee coverage for necessary expenses in January, it is imperative to prudently budget finances.
