Police reported that a fellow prisoner who was incarcerated at the same facility killed a 28-year-old inmate in his own cell.
According to a statement issued by the Maryland State Police on Wednesday, emergency medical personnel at the North Branch Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Maryland, identified the inmate as Robert Warren.
They said that Warren was declared dead in his cell on Monday.
Since the suspect has not yet been charged, authorities have not disclosed his identification, despite the fact that he is also an inmate.
More details will likely be made public by authorities after the individual is charged, according to police.
Maryland authorities said that Maryland State Police investigators are “continuing an investigation into the death of a state prison inmate in Allegany County,” but they did not specify how the guy was killed or how long they believe he had been dead before his body was found in his cell.
“The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was contacted by investigators from the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigative Unit (DPSCS IID) about an inmate death,” as per the Maryland State Police. “Autopsy results from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Warren’s death as a homicide.”

The inquiry is still under progress.
