This year’s Best Pizza Awards, held in Milan, Italy, recognized a pizzaiolo from Somerville as one of the best in the world.
On a list of 100 pizza chefs worldwide, Juan Gabriel Perez, the executive chef of Assembly Square sPosto, came up at number 54. Although chefs from other American locations, such as New York and California, also made the list, he was the only New England chef to receive this honor.
The Best Pizza Awards were in their third year, and several of the top pizza cooks from Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Mexico, and El Salvador were among them.

Here s where to find the best pizza in Greater Boston, according to readers
Every year, professionals from the restaurant sector, gastronomy specialists, food journalists, and even some pizza chefs vote to help create the list.
Despite making the best of list each of the previous three years, Perez’s ranking of No. 54 this year is his highest to date.
According to the Best Pizza Awards, he is commended for his inventive dough, fresh ingredients, and artistic flare in his role as Executive Chef at Posto Boston. Juan, who has more than a million followers worldwide, combines tradition and contemporary, gaining a reputation for passion and skill that respects pizza’s true origins.
Best of lists, such as the 50 Top Pizza USA rating, are nothing new to Posto, which recently moved to the mixed-use center Assembly Square after more than ten years in Davis Square. Its pie menu consists of a number of red and white pizzas that are baked in a wood-fired oven with a variety of traditional and seasonal toppings.
In addition to award-winning pie, Posto offers some traditional Italian pasta meals, entrees, and antipasti for those who prefer something different.
