The Celtics are already having an exciting summer.

Junior Holiday has left.There is no longer Kristaps Porzingis.Luke Kornetis is no longer there. While dumping salary, they have obtained draft capital, Anfernee Simons, and Georges Niang.

There is still conjecture about if the Celtics may make an even greater splash, but it is too soon to determine if they have finished making any moves.

Paul Pierce recently discussed why he believes the Celtics should not trade Jaylen Brown on his podcast, Paul George’s P.S.

Pierce remarked, “I still believe their window is open.” However, I hope they don’t trade JB. You can work out the rest as long as you have Brown and Tatum.

They are at the top of their game, so you might argue that over the next six years, we should watch what’s going on with these two. OKC has a clear MVP and a number of talented players. You simply need to rethink it right now if you can put it around JB and Tatum.

According to Pierce, the Celtics will probably have a year of transition during which they can work things out. For the previous two seasons, the Celtics were the clear favorites to win the championship. Now that Tatum is sidelined and the roster has changed, there is a lot of adjusting to do.

From the perspective of roster building, the changes have already started. The Celtics’ ownership believed that being over the second apron going into the upcoming season was unsustainable.

You don’t like it because you thought, “Dude, this team could be a dynasty,” after they won last year. Pierce spoke on the Celtics’ recent Porzingis and Holiday transactions. All of them were quite young. Their growing pains were now behind them. Now that it’s under new ownership, you begin to comprehend its operations.

Both Pierce and Kevin Garnett expressed their reasons for not being overly excited about the Celtics moving Holiday in a recent episode of KG Certified.

Garnett made reference to Simons, who averaged 22.6 points per game for the Blazers in 2024, when he added, “I don’t know if I would have given up Jrue Holiday for scoring.”

When someone from the outside comes to your club and believes they can do the same things they did there, the entire culture of the team changes a little. People on the outside may think that’s a good one, saying things like “oh, he averaged 20 and scored punch,” but they don’t understand the little intangibles, like the locker room.

This isn’t how it operates. We don’t need that kind of impact here. Nevertheless, for a little patchwork to get through what everyone refers to as a gap year, it’s cool for a year and then you eliminate all expenses.

Mike Zarren, the vice president of basketball operations for the Celtics, recently stated that the team has not given trading Derrick White or Brown any real thought.

Brown signed a supermax extension in 2023, which he still has four years left on.
