Gaylord, MI – A lake-effect snow system persists into Tuesday morning, producing snow showers and bitterly cold conditions in northern Michigan. The coldest conditions will arrive early Tuesday with wind chills falling into the single digits and teens for much of the snowbelt area.
More snowfall is forecasted between 8 p.m. tonight and 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the greatest amounts in locations near the Lake Michigan and Lake Huron snow belts. Although amounts are predicted to be light, the cold and wind will strongly affect the visibility and the condition of the roads, particularly the northern counties and along the M-55 corridor.
Wind chills tonight and early Tuesday may make it feel as cold as -4°F in some spots, according to the National Weather Service in Gaylord. Travelers need to stay attentive to quickly changing conditions on highways.
Later in the week, a fresh weather system will move south of the state during the middle of the week and may bring rain and snow. By Wednesday, temperatures will tick up slightly to 36°F, with some cloud cover and snow showers set to persist.
Citizens are advised to keep an eye on local weather reports and drive carefully in icy or snowy road conditions.
