The night skies over Kansas City will glow brighter than usual this week as Fourth of July celebrations kick off across the region. From live music to family-friendly activities, there are plenty of ways to enjoy Independence Day before fireworks light up the sky.

Stars and Stripes Picnic — July 4
- Where: National World War I Museum and Memorial
- When: Grounds open at 3 p.m., fireworks at 9:40 p.m.
- Details: Live performances throughout the afternoon; fireworks broadcast locally on KCTV

- Legacy Blast — July 3
- Where: Legacy Park, Lee’s Summit
- When: DJs and live music from 6 to 9 p.m., fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
- LibertyFest — July 3
- Where: Capitol Federal Sports Complex, Liberty
- When: Family activities, games, beer garden start at 6 p.m., fireworks at 10 p.m.
