The night skies over Kansas City will glow brighter than usual this week as Fourth of July celebrations kick off across the region. From live music to family-friendly activities, there are plenty of ways to enjoy Independence Day before fireworks light up the sky.

Here’s where you can celebrate the holiday in Kansas City:

Stars and Stripes Picnic — July 4

  • Where: National World War I Museum and Memorial
  • When: Grounds open at 3 p.m., fireworks at 9:40 p.m.
  • Details: Live performances throughout the afternoon; fireworks broadcast locally on KCTV

Other Fireworks and Celebrations

  • Legacy Blast — July 3
    • Where: Legacy Park, Lee’s Summit
    • When: DJs and live music from 6 to 9 p.m., fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
  • LibertyFest — July 3
    • Where: Capitol Federal Sports Complex, Liberty
    • When: Family activities, games, beer garden start at 6 p.m., fireworks at 10 p.m.
