How New York media reacted to Yankees’ ’embarrassing’ 12-1 loss to Red Sox

On Saturday, the Yankees may have reached their lowest point of the 2025 season and their most recent rivalry with the Red Sox.

New York lost to Boston 12-1 after giving up seven runs in the ninth inning. The Red Sox won the first three games of a crucial four-game set thanks to hilariously poor baseball in the last inning. The Red Sox now lead the season series 8-1 as a result of the victory.

The Yankees started playing essentially awful baseball after the Red Sox took a 9-1 lead thanks to a series of singles. With two outs, shortstop Anthony Vole dived to stop a ground ball up the middle from David Hamilton, but he airmailed the throw to first base, allowing another run to score.

When Yankees pitcher Paul Blackburn tossed the ball to first baseman Ben Rice, who wasn’t covering the bag, he was penalized for a balk during the subsequent at-bat. The Red Sox were able to increase their lead to 10-1 as a result. Carlos Narvaez put the cherry on top of the Red Sox victory with a two-run home run just a few pitches after the balk.

The New York media didn’t hold back in their criticism of the Yankees after they committed a string of hilarious errors on Saturday. Indeed, the YES booth did just that for a number of minutes during Saturday’s broadcast’s ninth inning.

After Narvaez hit a home run, play-by-play commentator Michael Kay observed, “YES, it can’t get much worse than this.”

Paul O. Neil, a YES analyst, responded, “You get embarrassed on the field every now and then.” This game simply got out of hand. Garrett You had to master crochet, and he was simply too skilled. However, during the past two innings, the Yankees have completely collapsed here.

When the top of the ninth inning ended, Kay continued, “To be honest, the Red Sox are totally dominating the Yankees this Saturday afternoon in the Bronx.”

According to Michael Kay, “it can’t get much worse than this.”Paul O’Neill: “On the field, you occasionally feel embarrassed.” The Yankees have completely collapsed.Kay said: “Quite frankly, the Yankees are getting schooled by the Red Sox”https://twitter.com/9mVlJKGWs1 #MLBpic

On the YES postgame broadcast, the Yankees were still being blasted.

According to YES analyst Jack Curry, the Yankees had a humiliating afternoon. Crochet did have his way with them, indeed. With those 11 strikeouts, he completely dominated the field for seven innings.

However, the Red Sox were superior. The team that was more hungry was the Red Sox. The team that played more urgently was the Red Sox. There is an issue when that is the squad you are pursuing in the standings. What else is an issue, you know? losing against that team 1–8.

As Crochet had their number the entire game, it felt like deja vu for the Yankees lineup, said YES commentator Dellin Betances. What a humiliating defeat for the Yankees. I’m not sure what else will wake you up if this game doesn’t.

Aside from the YES broadcast, the Yankees’ collapse against the Red Sox was the main topic of the Sunday New York Post’s back cover. Wicked Bad was the headline, and “Shameful, sloppy Yanks drop eighth straight vs. rival Sox” was the subheading.

In a commentary for the New York Post, veteran MLB writer Joel Sherman mockingly criticized the Yankees for their errors in Saturday’s game.

I therefore come to commend the Yankees, friends, New Yorkers, and compatriots. Sherman wrote, so don’t bury them. Therefore, I would want to express my regret for repeatedly saying this season that the Yankees are just skilled at hitting a ball over a fence. because pitching to the incorrect base is another one of their specialties.

The Sports Additionally, in his postgame editorial, Brendan Kuty made a few humorous jabs at the Yankees.

According to Kuty, Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, the quarterbacks for the New York Giants, sat in a suite but left long before the final pitch. The Yankees could have used a Hail Mary, so it’s a shame.

When Kuty said that the Yankees let players, staff, and their families spend the evening in the outfield to enjoy the pleasant weather, it was his second jab.

Kuty said that the club had a legitimate desire to exploit the situation. Even while the Yankees know they need to improve, they haven’t been able to accomplish it consistently with another team on the field for months.

Meanwhile, Bob Klapsich of NJ.com thinks that the Yankees’ October schedule is reflected in the first three games of this series. The Red Sox would host the Yankees in the opening round of the playoffs as of Sunday.

Klapsich wrote, “You’re not wrong to fear the worst.” A brief and cruel postseason seems imminent. The Mariners, who are starting to emerge as the No. 3 wild card, could theoretically be passed by the Yankees. However, everyone else poses a risk.

[Aaron] Klapsich continued, “Boone seems lost in the dugout (not to mention during his post-game press conferences).” Aaron Judge is far from making a comeback to the outfield. Luis Gil is pitching as if it were spring training—at least to him. Devin Williams is making a comeback because the bullpen is so erratic.

over the Yankees’ own feelings over their performance on Saturday, they are aware that they just need to perform better.

Judge stated, “We need to play better.” That’s the crux of the matter. Fans, coaches, and the media are powerless to change that. The players are present in this room. We must take action.

However, going off Boone s postgame comments, the urgency might not be there yet.

We re not running out of time, Boone said, but if we don t do better, then it s going to fizzle out and we re not going to get where we want to be.
