According to several sources, the Buss family has agreed to pay a record $10 billion to TWG Global CEO Mark Walter for their controlling interest in the Los Angeles Lakers team.
Three months after the Grousbeck family agreed to sell the Celtics to William Chisholm for a record-breaking $6.1 billion, the news was released.
While tweeting a link to a report about the sale, Lakers great Magic Johnson made a joke about the Celtics.
As I had anticipated, I knew the Lakers were worth $10 billion when the Celtics sold for $6 billion. On his X account, Johnson wrote.
Lakers fans should be thrilled about the new owner, Johnson told his X followers.
“I can tell you a few things about Mark,” Johnson remarked. Winning, greatness, and doing things correctly are what motivate him. Moreover, he will invest the resources required to succeed!
Given their similarities—competitive nature, large hearts, passion of giving back, and a preference for being behind the scenes—I can see why Jeanie sold the squad to Mark Walter. Everything about this makes perfect logic.

Jeannie Buss will remain as club governor and continue to lead the franchise for a number of years, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. In 1979, her father, Dr. Jerry Buss, paid $67.5 million to acquire the franchise.
Johnson and Walter each own a portion of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
According to Jonhson, I am aware that my sister Jeanie would only have thought about selling the Lakers organization to a person she knows and believes will continue the Buss family tradition, which her father, Dr. Buss, had established. She can now confidently hand off the reins to Mark Walter, whom she truly trusts and has a friendship with.
“I know that Mark will do right by the Lakers team, organization, and fans because I’ve seen him build a winning team with the Dodgers,” he continued. Both have had a tremendous influence on the larger Los Angeles community and are incredibly smart, visionary, and capable leaders! I adore my business partner, Mark Walter, as well as my sister, @JeanieBuss.
The record sale was a wonderful day for Los Angeles, according to former Red Sox player and current Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who spoke to ESPN.
According to Roberts, he is fiercely competitive. He will exert every effort to ensure that the city is proud of the Lakers and the heritage they have already established with the Buss family, as well as to build a squad that is capable of winning a championship each and every year.
