In the upcoming weeks, the Red Sox may be getting reinforcements.
The All-Star infielder told Rob Bradford of WEEI that there is a potential he might be cleared for game action prior to the All-Star Break (July 14–17), suggesting that veteran third baseman Alex Bregman may be closer to making a comeback to the diamond than first thought.
Since sustaining a quad injury on May 23, Bregman has not participated in any games.
I feel fantastic. According to Ian Browne of perMLB.com, “Today was the fastest I ran and the best I’ve felt during the rehab process,” Bregman continued. Baseball play has fully resumed. Therefore, this is many weeks ahead of schedule and beyond our predictions. Since you obviously don’t want to rush things, we’re kind of taking it day by day when it comes to that, but we’re already far ahead of where we anticipated being at this point.
Indeed, that was my quickest run of the day. returned to full activity, including throwing, hitting, defending, and sprinting both straight and curved. This week, we have a lot of running on the schedule. Thus, I hope that everything keeps going without a hitch.
Alex Cora reiterated Bregman’s remarks regarding the veteran’s near-certain comeback ahead of Boston’s eventual 13–6 victory over the Reds on Monday.
According to Browne, Cora stated, “He feels great, but obviously we have to be smart about it.” However, things are moving in the correct way. He’s nearly perfect based on the way he’s discussing things.
It would be great to have Bregman back in the middle of Boston’s lineup. The Red Sox’s bats have struggled ever since the organization decided to trade Rafael Devers to the Giants earlier this month, despite Monday’s 13-run explosion.
At the time of his injury, Bregman was hitting at an MVP level, slashing.299/.385/.553 with 35 RBI and 11 home runs in 51 games. Bregman is still second on the team in home runs and doubles (17) after missing more than a month of play.
Bregman talked about his future with the Red Sox in addition to his health. Bregman may opt out of his current contract after this season and in 2026, letting him to test free agency once more if he maximizes his value, even though he signed a three-year deal with Boston in February.
Bregman posted the same statement on Monday after his agent, Scott Boras, informed Tim Healey of The Boston Globe that his client would be amenable to a contract extension with Boston.
Chris Cotillo of MassLive was among the reporters Bregman informed, “I expected to love playing here, and I have definitely loved playing here.”It’s a fantastic baseball field. It’s fantastic to be able to perform for this company. It has absolutely lived up to my high expectations, which were all extremely favorable.
Getting cleared to play and helping the Red Sox turn things around after a 42-44 season are currently Bregman’s main priorities.
