HOUSTON — A deadly crash early Monday morning left one person dead and another seriously injured after their vehicle slammed into a concrete base beneath a freeway sign, according to the Houston Police Department.
The crash occurred around 3 a.m. along the North Freeway feeder road near the Gulf Bank Road exit. Investigators say the vehicle struck the concrete base supporting a large freeway sign, trapping both the driver and passenger inside the mangled car.
Emergency crews with the Houston Fire Department worked to extricate both occupants from the wreckage. Both were rushed to the hospital, where one later died from their injuries. The other remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Authorities have not released the identities of those involved or what factors may have contributed to the crash. The feeder road was shut down for several hours as HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division conducted their investigation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
