Wilmington, North Carolina — Wilmington is preparing for one of coastal North Carolina’s biggest Independence Day celebrations as the city marks America’s 250th birthday with an expanded Fourth of July Celebration at Riverfront Park. This year’s event features live entertainment, patriotic performances, family activities, and two synchronized fireworks shows that will illuminate the Cape Fear River and downtown skyline.
Wilmington July 4 Schedule
The official celebration begins during the evening at Riverfront Park.
Event Schedule
- 5:30 p.m. — Gates open

- 6:30 p.m. — Performance by Mackenzi Morris and Joshua Alan Rupp featuring the Theater for All Chorus

The event is free and open to the public, with lawn seating available for guests bringing blankets or low-profile beach chairs.
Fireworks Start Time
The official Wilmington Fireworks Show begins at 9:00 p.m.
To celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary, Wilmington will feature two simultaneous fireworks displays:
- One launched across from Riverfront Park
- One launched from a barge near the Battleship North Carolina
The dual launch creates wider visibility across the nearly two-mile-long Riverwalk and surrounding downtown waterfront.
Best Places to Watch the Fireworks
Riverfront Park
The official event venue offers the closest views of the fireworks, live music, and family entertainment throughout the evening.
Wilmington Riverwalk
Stretching nearly two miles along the Cape Fear River, the Riverwalk provides excellent public viewing for both fireworks displays while allowing visitors to spread out away from the largest crowds.
Battleship North Carolina Area
The waterfront near the Battleship North Carolina offers outstanding views of one of the launch locations and the downtown skyline.
Live Oak Bank Pavilion
Visitors near the pavilion can enjoy the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra before watching both fireworks shows over the river.
Parking and Traffic
Because thousands of visitors are expected downtown, officials recommend planning ahead.
Visitors should:
- Arrive before 5:30 p.m.
- Use the City Deck at 155 Brunswick Street
- Use the Wilmington Convention Center Parking Deck (515 Nutt Street), which charges a $10 event fee after 4:00 p.m.
- Take advantage of free on-street metered parking where available
- Expect numerous downtown road closures beginning around 6:00 p.m.
Several streets near the Riverwalk, including portions of Water Street, Front Street, Market Street, and nearby cross streets, will close before the fireworks.
