Two California Powerball Players Win $25,717 Each, Just Shy of $153 Million Jackpot

CALIFORNIA — Two Powerball players in California are celebrating significant wins after each scored $25,717, falling just one number short of the massive $153 million jackpot, lottery officials announced.

The lucky tickets matched four of the five white ball numbers, plus the red Powerball, in the drawing held on Saturday, June 28, according to the California Lottery.

Where the Winning Tickets Were Sold

The two winning tickets were purchased at:

  • On the Way Liquor in Fountain Valley, roughly 40 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
  • A Shell gas station in Discovery Bay, about 70 miles south of Sacramento.

Because California adjusts lottery prizes based on the number of winners and tickets sold, the prize amounts can vary compared to other states.

No Grand Prize Winner, Jackpot Climbs

While no one took home the grand prize, the Powerball jackpot now rises to an estimated $162 million, with a cash value of approximately $74.2 million for the next drawing on Monday, June 30, according to the national Powerball website.

Winning Numbers and Odds

The winning numbers for the June 28 drawing were:
4, 35, 43, 52, 62, with a Powerball of 12.
The Power Play multiplier was 2x.

In total, more than 470,000 Powerball tickets sold across the U.S. won prizes ranging from $4 to $100,000, lottery officials said.

The last time the Powerball jackpot was hit was on May 31, when a California player won a staggering $204.5 million.

How Powerball Works

To win the Powerball jackpot, players must match all five white balls and the red Powerball. The odds of hitting the jackpot are a steep 1 in 292,201,338.

Tickets can be purchased up until the drawing, though sales times and prices vary by state. Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET, and can also be streamed online.

Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
