Trump administration finds Harvard failed to protect Jewish students, threatens to cut all funding

Washington (AP)Following an investigation, the Trump administration declared that Harvard University had failed to safeguard Jewish students from harassment and threatened to revoke all federal funding to the Ivy League university if it did not respond.

Harvard received a letter on Monday from a federal task force that concluded the university had broken civil rights statutes that mandate universities shield students from racial or national origin discrimination. According to the report, investigators discovered that Harvard occasionally knowingly engaged in antisemitic harassment of Jewish academics, staff, and students, and that university administrators let antisemitism to flourish on the Cambridge, Massachusetts, campus.

In a letter obtained by The Associated Press and first reported by The Wall Street Journal, officials stated that Harvard’s relationship with the federal government would continue to suffer and that failure to implement sufficient changes immediately would result in the loss of all federal financial resources.

Harvard refrained from commenting right away.

It’s the most recent escalation in the White House conflict with Harvard, which lost nearly $2.6 billion in government funding after turning down a set of requests that called for significant adjustments to admissions, hiring, and campus governance.
