St. Paul Man Sentenced After Teen with Bat Stops Robbery

The man, who is 37 years old, will be sentenced to more than two years in jail for attempting to rob a liquor store in Maplewood, Minnesota but was stopped by an eight-year-old girl who used a baseball bat to defend herself against him.

In the month of November 2024, Conchobhar Morrell entered a guilty plea to the charge of first-degree attempted aggravated robbery. Morrell was given a sentence of 36 months in jail on Friday by a court in Ramsey County, with credit issued for 97 days that he had already served.

Big Discount Liquors, located on White Bear Avenue North, was the location of the attempted robbery that took place on the evening of August 10, 2024, according to the charges.

Morrell was seen on surveillance footage from the store reaching into his pocket while wearing an Amazon outfit. He then placed a firearm, which was subsequently determined to be a BB pistol, on the counter.

The statement was made by a spokesman for Amazon, who stated that Morrell worked as a delivery worker for a third-party service that delivered products for Amazon.

According to the accusations, Morrell requested that Leo, the manager of the store, hand him “everything,” which is a reference to the money that was in the cash register.

Leo stated that he attempted to reason with Morrell and explain to him that he could have all of the money. He also stated that his only concern was for the safety of his daughter, who was currently eight years old and was present at the business when the event occurred.

It was shown on surveillance tape that Morrell was seen walking behind the counter while holding the gun. The allegations state that after that, Leo and Morrell engaged in a wrestling match over the pistol, while the girl immediately grabbed a baseball bat.

A few blows were delivered to the suspect by the girl before she fled the scene. Leo stated that he was unaware that she attempted to assist him until he viewed the security tape and watched it again.

Morrell was brought into custody several hundred feet away from the store, as stated in the information provided in the criminal complaint.
