Red Sox’ Ceddanne Rafaela catches fire with go-ahead HR, leaping catch vs. Giants

Ceddanne Rafaela was unfazed by the Rafael Devers trade saga on Friday night.

The 24-year-old had a great night in the outfield and batter’s box against the Devers’ Giants in San Francisco. Rafaela was three out of four and just missed the cycle. Among his hits was a game-winning home run that helped the Red Sox defeat the Giants 7–5.

He doubled on a crisp line drive in the third inning to record his first hit of the evening. Rafaela ultimately scored Boston’s second run of the game, bringing the score to 3-2 early.

He took care of business in center field before his next at-bat. In the bottom of the third, Rafaela made a leaping catch against the wall, denying Devers a possible extra-base single.

Take a look at the catch that kept the Red Sox within one run:

Boston ultimately took the lead thanks to Rafaela’s spectacular grab. In the fourth inning, he tied the score at three runs each by driving home Wilyer Abreu with an RBI single in his subsequent at-bat.

Rafaela decided enough was enough after a couple of innings of scoring back and forth, including an RBI base single by Roman Anthony.

He took a hanging, belt-high knuckle curveball 424 feet to dead-center field in the top of the sixth inning with the score tied at five. Boston took a 6-5 lead after Rafaela’s solo stroke, and it didn’t look back.

The player’s home run on Friday was his eighth of the season. Rafaela is hitting.255 in June and.273 overall, with an OPS of.710 for the season.

The victory raised the Red Sox’s season record to 40-37. They are 3-1 after the Devers deal and 8-1 in their previous nine games. In the American League East standings, Boston trails the New York Yankees by four games.
