Police Say a Teen Driver Was Caught in a Hit-and-run Accident in West Phoenix That Killed One

In a crash in Phoenix early Saturday morning, one man died and another is being charged with several crimes.

Around 6 a.m., police were called to the area of 58th Drive and Encanto Boulevard to reports of a crash with injuries. Police say that one of the drivers had already left the scene of the accident.

At the scene of the accident, police said that Aquileo Najera, 51, the driver of the other car, had not survived his injuries and had been declared dead.

Police said they used leads to find the other car at a nearby house and arrested him. He was named Jesus Enrique Renteria Arroyo, and he was 19 years old.

According to the police, Renteria Arroyo was going too fast south on 58th Drive and ran a stop sign at Encanto, where his car hit Najera’s car going east on that street.

Police say Renteria Arroyo was charged with murder, leaving the scene of an accident that killed someone or seriously hurt someone, and multiple DUI counts related to the fatal crash.

Police say Renteria Arroyo admitted he was drunk while he was being held.
