Teenage thieves are stealing a lot of cars in Warren County, Ohio, just like they are in a lot of other places in the country. Instead of a random trend started by social media, it’s said to be the work of a theft ring that’s been going after cars aggressively and even armed carjackings.
Fox 19 in the area reported that these teens have gone after both private car owners and dealership lots in their drive to steal cars. When the owner of one of the rides being stolen confronted them, at least one of the teens pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot the person if they tried to stop them.
In many parts of North America over the last few years, we’ve seen this kind of thing happen. A while ago, a lot of people didn’t know that teens were taking a lot of cars. Now that they do, they’re just confused to learn that young kids in their town are often the ones boosting rides.
People naturally think that adults who are very bad at crime are the ones taking cars. They don’t know this, but organized crime groups love to hire children because they know that prosecutors and even police will be easier on them.
The kids will usually only get a small fine for taking cars, and they’ll be back out on the streets quickly, ready to keep riding for money. Plus, the theft rings can pay the teens little money to do dangerous work, which helps them make more money.
How can local governments fight the problem? This is the big question that doesn’t seem to have many clear answers. That’s because many of these theft rings have bosses in other countries, so they can’t just go arrest the guys. There is a real problem.
