What Mike Vrabel said about Anfernee Jennings and Kyle Dugger playing so late in preseason games
Will Campbell and Mike Onwenu have essentially been locked into their positions at left tackle and right guard for the most of training camp.
For the other three offensive line positions, the future has been less certain.
The left guard is still up for grabs. On Saturday, rookie Jared Wilson was replaced by Ben Brown. Cole Strange started for the Patriots at the start of camp. Then Wilson was used instead. Brown was given a chance with the starting lineup after the rookie had a difficult preseason debut and sustained an injury during practice this week.
Vrabel stated that they were merely attempting to move everyone to their potential positions while maintaining competition at left guard. ensuring Wilson is at the proper location. I acknowledge him. He put up a lot of effort to get back to practice after being unable to do so on Thursday.
We all agreed that he would be able to play after working him out before the game, and he did. He likely had some solid shots and some that we’ll need to work on. Thus, the aim is to provide him with all the necessary work to enable him to compete.
Wilson, Strange, and Brown have all taken turns snapping the ball, but Garrett Bradbury has received the most of the snaps at center. Prior to his release last year, Bradbury had a lengthy tenure as a starter in Minnesota.
When he has been able to play, Morgan Moses has been the starting right tackle. In addition to several persistent issues, the 34-year-old veteran has had some prescribed rest days. Moses was replaced in Saturday’s game by Marcus Bryant, a rookie selected in the seventh round. Additionally, Demontrey Jacobs has practiced at right tackle.
The Patriots are still trying to sort things out and shifting pieces about on the line. Given that the season is less than a month away, Vrabel was asked when he would like to have his starting five decided.
just when it becomes evident. There is no set timeframe, but Vrabel stated, “I believe it will become clear at some point. It didn’t before, and I don’t think it has yet.” Since you rarely play the same five throughout a 17-game season and hopefully whatever follows, we’ll continue to work and attempt to assemble the best group available and then surround them with people who can assist us and are versatile.
The goal is to set up the first unit with a strong group of offensive linemen and have some excellent players supporting them.
