New Eatery Bergen Hall Soft Opens in Jersey City

The team behind one of Jersey City’s more popular take-out spots has launched their first full-fledged restaurant space as Bergen Hall has opened their doors in a growing neighborhood.

Jersey Digs

reported

on the restaurant’s impending arrival at 58 Maple Street back in February. Bergen Hall is a new culinary experience from the team behind Ghost Truck Kitchen, which was launched in 2019 by longtime Jersey City resident Andrew Martino.

That restaurant specializes in takeout options with a diverse menu featuring globally inspired bowls, wings, and a plethora of other culinary options to satisfy any palate. Ghost Truck Kitchen, or gtk, re-launched at 295 Johnston Avenue just a few weeks ago and the companion Bergen Hall has now opened next door.

Joining the gtk team for Bergen Hall is Brant Schweinsberg, who previously worked as the Beer Manager at

The Iron Monkey

. He later joined

New Jersey Beer Company

and helped expand their tasting room before later teaming up with

Departed Soles Brewing Company

.

The launch menu at Bergen has starters and small plates ranging from birria empanadas to a smoked bluefish dip or vegan spring rolls. Mains include Faroe Island salmon, a French onion short rib with roasted carrots, or a tamarind pulled pork concoction with plantains two ways.

Bergen Hall also features a rotating burger of the month, along with other vegetarian-friendly dishes, such as a falafel wrap or vegan fried rice. The restaurant is currently serving mocktails as part of its soft launch, with a full cocktail menu set to be introduced later this summer.

In the meantime, the restaurant cheekily has a sign on the front door stating that “it’s illegal to advertise BYOB, so we won’t.” Take that was you wish for the short term. Oh, and they have a photo booth.

Bergen Hall is situated in a slice of Bergen-Lafayette that has undergone tremendous evolution in recent years, following

The Roxy

down the street as the second high-profile restaurant to open in the area. Other spots to set up shop in the neighborhood include

Eggs Up

and

Mochi Dough

.

Their current hours span from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from noon to 10 p.m., Friday through Sunday. Bergen Hall can be followed on Instagram at the handle
