MLB observers are aware of the circumstances behind the Red Sox’s recent five-game losing skid, given their current struggles.
The contentious decision to move Rafael Deversa seems to have put an excessive amount of pressure on Boston’s younger players, as former Red Sox outfielder and current MLB Network commentator Chris Young recently noted.
When asked about his level of concern, Young said, “I’m at a level of panic right now.” Yes, you have young players with a lot of promise who should be in the major leagues, especially when you consider how poorly the offense has performed since Devers was [traded] away. And I totally get that.
However, Young continued, “you’re putting all these young players in situations where they now feel like they need to be the guy when you lose Devers.”

The three well-known Boston prospects who will be promoted in 2025 are all having trouble at the plate. Marcelo Mayer’s average is.208, Kristian Campbell was at.223 before he was just sent down to the lower leagues, and Roman Anthony is hitting.114.
Boston’s offensive output has drastically decreased due to the contingent’s struggles and the fact that no one else in the lineup is making up Devers’ reduced performance, which is a key contributing element to the team’s recent slump.
Young clarified that as a young player, you want to be able to enter the major leagues and gain some experience. The team’s message is that they will win more games now than they did with Devers. This is especially true if you’re a young player in a market like the Boston Red Sox and you just [traded] Devers to make room for these young players to take over the organization.
Young concluded, “I feel like they’re feeling the heat a little bit right now. All the pressure now naturally goes to these young players that you’re making room for, not Trevor Story.”
