Memphis, Tennessee — Memphis is preparing for one of its biggest Independence Day celebrations in years as the Downtown Memphis Commission hosts Independence Day on the River at Tom Lee Park.
The free event celebrates America’s 250th Anniversary and brings fireworks back to the Mississippi River waterfront with live entertainment, food, games, and a spectacular drone and fireworks finale.
Memphis July 4 Schedule
According to the official event page, festivities begin with gates opening at 5:30 p.m., followed by live entertainment from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. across three stages inside Tom Lee Park. Families can enjoy food trucks, local vendors, games, and activities throughout the evening before the night’s grand finale.
The celebration concludes with a drone show and fireworks spectacular at 9:00 p.m., launched from Mud Island River Park and synchronized over the Mississippi River, creating one of the best skyline views in the Mid-South.

The top viewing location is Tom Lee Park, where the official celebration takes place. Since the fireworks launch from Mud Island River Park, spectators throughout Downtown Memphis will also have excellent views along the riverfront.

The event features five public entrance points, including:

- CutBank Bluff at Vance Avenue
- Bluff Walk at Huling Avenue & Tennessee Street
- Bluff Walk at W. Butler Avenue & Tennessee Street
- Riverside Drive & W. Georgia Avenue
All entrances will have security screening and metal detectors, so guests should allow extra time before entering.
Visitors are encouraged to bring:
- Lawn chairs
- Blankets
- Water
- Clear bags
- Small purses
- Strollers and wagons
Prohibited items include coolers, alcohol, backpacks, tents, bicycles, scooters, pets (except service animals), and personal fireworks.
