LEXINGTON — Independence Day is almost here, and Lexington has a full schedule of patriotic events planned, leading up to the city’s big fireworks show Friday night.

The fireworks will launch at 10 p.m. from the R.J. Corman rail yard, near Main Street and Oliver Lewis Way, wrapping up a day of festivities. The display is expected to last about 25 minutes, according to Lexington Superintendent of Cultural Arts and Events, Amber Luallen.

Lexington July 4 Event Schedule

  • 7:25 a.m. — Bluegrass 10,000 Wheelchair Race
  • 7:30 a.m. — Bluegrass 10,000 Foot Race
  • 8:30 a.m. — Fun Run on Short Street
  • 10 a.m. — Community Reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Historic Lexington Courthouse
  • 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. — Live Music and Vendors at Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza and Henry A. Tandy Centennial Park
  • Noon — Fourth of July Parade on Main Street
  • 10 p.m. — Fireworks Show at Main Street and Oliver Lewis Way
