With the Fourth of July falling on a Friday this year, Alaskans can expect an extended weekend full of festivities, live music, parades, art, and, of course, fireworks—where permitted.
Important Reminder: The use of personal fireworks is illegal within the Municipality of Anchorage and Mat-Su Borough without a permit, except in Houston. Fire danger remains high in both areas.
Here’s a guide to some of the biggest events happening across the state this Independence Day weekend:
Eagle River 3rd of July Extravaganza
- Eagle River Lions Park, 18344 Eagle River Road
- Thursday, July 3, 6 p.m.
Kick off the holiday weekend with food, drinks, and live music from the Glacier Blues Band. Fireworks will cap off the night at midnight.
Anchorage’s Fourth of July Celebration and Parade
- Delaney Park Strip, West Ninth Avenue (between E and I Street)
- Friday, July 4, starting at 10 a.m.
The city’s largest celebration features carnival rides, food trucks, craft vendors, live music, and a beer garden for those 21 and over. The parade starts at 11 a.m., so arrive early for a good viewing spot.
Alaska Baseball League Doubleheader
- Mulcahy Stadium, 498 E. 16th Ave.
- Friday, July 4, 7 p.m. & 10 p.m.
An Anchorage tradition, the Glacier Pilots and Bucs face off under the lights. Two games, one big night of baseball fun.
Wasilla Fourth of July Parade
- Downtown Wasilla
- Friday, July 4, 11 a.m.
The theme this year is “Front Porch Freedom: Celebrating Local Traditions.” Expect family fun and community pride, but no fireworks due to heightened fire danger.
Seward’s Mount Marathon Race and Fireworks
- Fourth Avenue, Seward
- Friday, July 4, Parade at 1 p.m.; Fireworks at 12:01 a.m.
Watch world-class athletes tackle the grueling Mount Marathon Race in its 97th year. Stick around for the downtown parade and fireworks over Seward Harbor.
Girdwood Forest Fair
- Girdwood Park, 250 Egloff Drive
- Friday-Sunday, July 4-6, starting at 11 a.m.
Celebrating its 50th year, this beloved fair features craft vendors, food stalls, and local art. Remember: No dogs, politics, or religious orders allowed.
