High-Speed Chase through Sacramento region ends in Davis Crash, Vehicle Burns

A high-speed chase spanning multiple counties in the Sacramento region ended with a crash and vehicle fire in the city of Davis on Wednesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The chase began in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Auburn in Placer County, authorities said. It continued through Sacramento County and the city of Sacramento before the suspect crashed on I-80 in Davis, located in Yolo County.

CHP officials said the suspect’s vehicle overturned and caught fire after leaving the roadway. A CBS Sacramento crew at the scene reported the car was resting on its side in brush off the side of the freeway.

The driver and two passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken into custody at the scene.

During the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle struck at least one civilian car. The driver of that vehicle, who was the sole occupant, was not injured, CHP confirmed.

The Auburn-area CHP initially engaged in the chase before handing off to officers from the North Sacramento division.

The cause of the pursuit remains under investigation, and no further details about the suspects or possible charges have been released.
