Police in Los Angeles are looking for a man who was caught on camera reportedly trying to take a girl from school as she walked home before a neighbor stopped him.
“It happened around 3:15 p.m. on October 21 in the Wilmington area, close to M Street and Gulf Avenue,” the LAPD said in a news statement. The man, who is said to be White or Hispanic and may be in his 20s or 30s, is seen on film touching an 11-year-old girl inappropriately from behind.
Ivonne, a neighbor who saw what was going on and told the police, can be heard on video yelling, “Hey, leave her alone!”
Before leaving, the suspect tried to tell Ivonne that the girl was his sister, but she didn’t believe him. The suspect got away in a gray Nissan Kick while she and her brother were after him.
Ivonne, who has lived in the area for a long time, told FOX 11 that she was glad she was there at the right time to save the girl, who was likely walking home from Wilmington Middle School.
Based on what LAPD said, the suspect’s car has a spare wheel on the back passenger side. The person being sought is also said to be about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 240 pounds.
Harbor Area police want anyone who knows anything about the suspect to call them at 310-726-7900. Calling 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or going to www.lacrimestoppers.org is how people who want to stay private can give information.
