Okay, everyone, buckle up, because Chicago just received a crazy wild ride of weather! We experienced some pretty intense thunderstorms barrel through earlier today, with quite a punch behind those high winds, torrential rains, and even hail! It was an honest display of nature’s power.
Now, keep your hats on tight, because the weather’s making another quick turn. This evening, after midnight, that rain’s supposed to turn into a wet, slushy snow. Yes, you heard me correctly – snow! The temperature’s going to drop, so buckle up for a cold snap. We may even get some of that white stuff hanging around on the grass and those cold outdoor surfaces.
And cold, too, by the way. Those winds are going to be howling. Get ready for northerly and northwesterly winds blowing around at 25 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts that could hit a substantial 45 miles per hour. That’s some serious wind! In fact, the National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory that takes effect at 10 p.m. tonight and continues through 7 a.m. Thursday. So, be sure to tie down anything loose outdoors, because those gusts are going to be blowing things around. And there’s a possibility those high winds, mixed with the falling snow, might really reduce visibility to a quarter or half mile in some areas. Drive safely!
And check this out: Officially, Astronomical Spring begins at 4:03 a.m. Thursday. What a greeting! We’ll probably be rising to a brand new dusting of snow on the ground. Dramatic arrival of spring, if you ask me!
Thursday itself won’t be all that warmer. It’ll be a blustery, cold day, with the temperatures only reaching the low to mid-40s. So keep those winter coats ready, Chicago, because it appears that winter’s not quite ready to release its grip yet.
