Derrick White kept unused victory cigars in his locker for 2 years as motivation

In the 2022 NBA Finals, the Celtics came very near but lost.

No cigar in the literal sense, as they lost their title dreams after blowing a 2-1 series lead over the Warriors. They didn’t have a time to burn the cigars Jaylen Brown offered the team to start the run, so it was literally “no cigar.”

Celtics guard Derrick White collected the cigars following the devastating defeat and kept them in safekeeping for two years.

On the White Noise Podcast, White stated, “I kept it in my locker from that moment.”I said, “I’m going to distribute these when we win.”

According to Derrick White, he distributed cigars after the Celtics won the 2024 NBA Championship and saved some after they lost in the 2022 Finals.https://bDApoUHwOZ

White was ready, as the Celtics won their 18th title in 2024 after defeating the Mavericks.

“Look what I got,” White exclaimed as I opened my locker.

White claimed that although he doesn’t personally smoke cigars, the occasion was very significant to him symbolically.

The Celtics have achieved the ultimate goal after years of anticipation and buildup.

We overcame that obstacle. “We overcame that obstacle,” White remarked. Just sitting in my locker, this has served as a reminder for the past two years that we have failed, but now we have succeeded.
