by Boston (AP) On Saturday night, the Boston Red Sox defeated Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2, with Jarren Duran hitting a two-run triple and Garrett Crochet striking out 10 in six innings.
The Red Sox won for the seventh time in eight games since the All-Star break, and Boston rookie Roman Anthony added an RBI double off Kershaw. Before the break, Boston had won ten straight games.
In the first, Crochet allowed two home runs on his own. A day after his five-game home run streak was broken, Shohei Ohtani hit his 38th of the season on the third pitch of the game. Teoscar Hernandez hit one over the Green Monster after one batter.
Nevertheless, Crochet (12-4) bounced back fast and gave up two runs or fewer for the 18th time in 22 outings this season. Aroldis Chapman ended it by striking out pinch hitter and former Red Sox star Mookie Betts, earning three outs for his 18th save.
Kershaw (4-2) made his first regular-season start at Fenway Park, allowing four runs and six hits in 4 2/3 innings while striking out two batters.
The only time the three-time Cy Young Award winner started in Boston was during the Red Sox’s victory against the Dodgers in Game 1 of the 2018 World Series.
Duran hit a pitch over center fielder Andy Pages’ head to the wall for a two-run triple in the second inning when the Red Sox were behind 2-0. Abraham Toro subsequently scored on a sacrifice fly.
Duran had two triples in his first game as a player. Betts’ 2018 AL MVP season was the last Red Sox player to accomplish that feat.
In the series finale on Sunday, the Dodgers will start RHP Dustin May (6-6, 4.73 ERA). Walker Buehler (6-6, 5.72), a Boston RHP, takes on his old team.
