A family member was allegedly poisoned by a Missouri woman who added rat poison and antifreeze to his tea and lemonade, making him very sick.
The 61-year-old Barbaray Clinkenbeard faces two counts of armed criminal action and first-degree domestic abuse. A Morgan County Sheriff’s Office probable cause arrest complaint states that the victim heard Clinkenbeard confess to poisoning him over the phone on Friday. Then the victim dialed the police.
According to detectives, the victim was poisoned by Clinkenbeard between December and January. On the first time, she reportedly combined some rat poison with a glass of lemonade after discovering it in a bus on her property. According to the affidavit, she put some antifreeze in tea the second time she discovered it on her premises. On both occasions, the victim fell ill.
The suspect was taken into custody by deputies after they visited the residence in Versailles, which is about 70 miles southwest of Columbia. Clinkenbeard allegedly began singing about how Jesus would save her on the way to the jail. According to the affidavit, she continued to sing religious hymns while at the police station and would alternate between sobbing and singing.
During a dispute with the family member, Clinkenbeard allegedly confessed to poisoning him. According to the affidavit, Clinkenbeard responded in the positive when asked if she was aware that the quantity of poison used in both cases may kill the victim. According to the affidavit, the victim initially disputed that Clinkenbeard had poisoned him, but after confessing to police, she acknowledged doing so.
If found guilty, the defendant may spend anywhere from 10 to 30 years behind bars. She is still detained without bond at the Morgan County Jail. April 8 is the date of her upcoming court appearance.
