Alabama Frost Advisory: Montgomery and Surrounding Areas Under Threat Until Friday Morning

Montgomery, AL – A frost advisory has been issued for a large portion of central Alabama with temperatures predicted to fall as low as 32°F early tomorrow morning.

Per the National Weather Service in Birmingham, the advisory would be valid 1 a.m. through 9 a.m. Friday CDT. Affected zones encompass Autauga, Barbour, Bibb, Bullock, Chambers, Chilton, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Greene, Hale, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Montgomery, Perry, Pike, Russell, Sumter, and Tallapoosa counties.

Residence in these locations should be prepared to shield vulnerable outdoor plants from the frost, as damage or even death to unprotected plants is possible. Moving potted plants indoors or covering them in frost cloths or blankets is advisable.

The cold temperatures come on the heels of a period of mild weather, representing a sudden change in conditions. Alabama is not new to early spring temperature fluctuations, but this advisory is a reminder to gardeners and farmers to exercise caution.

Warmer temperatures should come back this weekend, but in the meantime, residents need to take precautions against the cold overnight temperatures. For more information, look at local weather forecasts and stay up to date on weather patterns that may be changing.
