A Man Was Arrested in Wyoming on Charges of Making Threats Against Churches

COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — A man has been arrested in Wyoming on charges that he made threats against several churches in Cottonwood Heights.

The Cottonwood Heights Police Department said in a news statement that Keith Barber, who may also go by the name Troy Hire, was thought to be dangerous and armed.

On Sunday, Barber reportedly called 911 to say that he was outside of a Catholic church with a knife and “feeling violent toward Catholics.” There was also a threat made against a meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, according to the message.

Police said Barber left the scene of the crime, but he was later caught in Wyoming.

The news statement said, “Barber is thought to be having an unknown mental crisis and is thought to be armed and dangerous.”

People in Cottonwood Heights are being asked to call the police if they know anything about what happened.
