Farmington, Pennsylvania — As the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary of independence, destinations across the country are planning larger-than-ever Fourth of July events, featuring everything from historic parades and fireworks displays to one of the rarest aerial attractions in the world.
Among the most anticipated spectacles is the appearance of “Old Glory,” the world’s largest American flag kite, which is scheduled to take flight above Pennsylvania’s Nemacolin Resort during a special Independence Day festival.
The massive display is expected to be one of the standout attractions as communities commemorate America’s Semiquincentennial with patriotic celebrations from coast to coast.
World’s Largest American Flag Kite Set to Take Flight
Nemacolin Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania, is planning a multi-day Mountain Majesty celebration featuring family activities, a patriotic drone show, and a three-day kite festival.
The highlight will be the appearance of “Old Glory,” a giant American flag kite operated by Great American Kites.
The enormous kite spans approximately 14,000 square feet and weighs nearly 600 pounds, making it one of the largest kites ever flown. It previously held a world record and has appeared publicly only a handful of times in recent years.
Its rare flight over Nemacolin’s airstrip is expected to serve as a tribute to America’s history and its 250th birthday.
“The Fourth of July has long been one of the most cherished traditions at Nemacolin,” said Maggie Hardy, owner and CEO of the resort.
“As our nation commemorates its 250th anniversary, we felt this was an opportunity to create something truly extraordinary.”
Rhode Island Town Continues America’s Oldest Celebration
Meanwhile, Bristol, Rhode Island, often called “America’s Most Patriotic Town,” is preparing for another year of its famous Independence Day traditions.
The community has hosted its Military, Civic and Firemen’s Parade since 1785, making it the oldest continuous Fourth of July celebration in the nation.
As part of this year’s Semiquincentennial events, Bristol will host historical exhibits, living history demonstrations, and opportunities for visitors to explore important documents connected to America’s founding.
The annual parade remains the centerpiece of the festivities, attracting tens of thousands of spectators who line the streets to watch marching bands, military units, civic organizations, and local participants celebrate the nation’s heritage.

Meanwhile, Big Cedar Lodge in Missouri plans to decorate its sprawling property with thousands of American flags while offering fireworks cruises, patriotic cookouts, golf, glamping experiences, and family competitions throughout the holiday weekend.
