To decide its draft order before the 2025 season, one fantasy football league used a different method than picking names out of a hat or utilizing an online number generator.
Ten members of the club carried a poster with the names of all the fantasy players to the Patriots-Vikings joint practice in Minnesota this week. They wanted a certain athlete present to choose their draft order at random: Drake Maye is the Patriots’ second-year quarterback.
Maye and the rest of the squad requested the quarterback before practice if he could write on their poster who drafts first, second, and so on once practice was over. After agreeing, the 22-year-old quickly rejoined the group.
The names of the dream participants were surrounded by the autographs of a number of other players who had visited the poster before Maye. Maye was free to put numbers 1–10 next to the names if he so desired.
Maye immediately chose at random who would pick first through last in their fantasy draft using a marker.

Depending on where they were selected in the draft, Patriots fan favorite Maye could make or ruin that fans’ day.
