Teenage Boy Killed in Shooting at South Miami Apartment, 2 in Custody. According to police, a shooting at a South Miami apartment complex on Sunday night left a 15-year-old child dead and two young males in arrest.
Investigators with Miami-Dade Police said that shortly after 5:30 p.m., South Miami Police received a complaint regarding a shooting near 5944 SW 64th St. and promptly started looking for a suspected white automobile. Officers attempted a traffic stop after locating the vehicle, but it quickly escaped, and a chase followed.
Following the pursuit, the two guys, who were 18 and 19 years old, got out of the automobile and fled to the Target located at the intersection of Dixie Highway and 104th Street. Before they were apprehended, Miami-Dade and South Miami police officers persisted in their pursuit. For interrogation, the men were brought to the Miami-Dade Police Department. As of yet, no identities have been made public.
Prior to the shooting, the youngster and two young men were together at the apartment complex, according to the preliminary investigation. The three got into a fight at one point, and one of them pulled out a gun. Shots were fired, hitting the youngster. According to Miami-Dade Police, the gunshot appears to have taken place in an outdoor corridor or outside the property.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the youngster to HCA Kendall Trauma Center, where, according to Miami-Dade Police, he passed away from his wounds in spite of life-saving measures.
Detective Andre Martin of Miami-Dade Police described the incident as “tragic,” particularly considering how near the holidays it occurred.
“There’s no reason — no great reason — to take anyone’s life,” he stated. “So, it’s extremely tragic.”
Investigations are being conducted into the shooting’s circumstances. Whether charges will be brought at this time was not stated by the police.
