Massachusetts Woman Warns of Holiday Fire Pit Dangers After Explosion

Massachusetts Woman Warns of Holiday Fire Pit Dangers After Explosion. HANOVER This year, a Hanover woman is raising awareness of the possible risks associated with a well-liked holiday present. Online gift lists frequently feature tabletop fire pits, but following a terrifying incident in July, Katelyn Little is raising concerns.

“I just want to put the awareness out there and let people know that they’re dangerous and what could potentially happen,” Little stated.

Burns of the second and third degrees

Back in the summer, Little received a tabletop fire pit as a gift, and shortly after assembling it, it burst into flames, lighting her ablaze. To extinguish the fire, she dove into her backyard pool.

Due to second and third degree burns all over her body, she was unable to move and spent four days in the hospital.

“The burn unit treated me there for a total of four days. I spent four days in bed, changing my dressings and taking soaks every day. I was unable to walk,” Little remarked. “It was just, it was horrible.”

A heads-up before the holidays

Little didn’t intend to tell her story at first, but when she was holiday shopping, she became aware of something.

“When I search Yankee swap gifts under $30, it’s pretty much the number one gift that comes up right now,” Little stated. “A lot of different companies are making them.”

Little claimed to have read a number of tales that were comparable to her own. A couple from New Hampshire lost their lives when their fire pit exploded earlier this year.

By sharing her story, Katelyn hopes to contribute to the safety of others.

“A couple people have said, ‘oh my God I just bought one, now I’m not going to use it’ so they’re aware and they’re thankful that I’m sharing my story,” Little stated.
