Las Vegas — A former high school janitor’s prison sentence for having a sexual relationship with a North Las Vegas student is still pending.
Devyn Hudson’s sentencing hearing was planned for October 10 in Clark County District Court, but it was rescheduled, and no new date has been established, according to court documents.
According to court documents, Hudson’s counsel requested a delay in sentencing in order to subpoena school data.
Hudson was 27 years old at the time of his arrest in March. He was arraigned on June 20, two weeks after being indicted by a Clark County grand jury.
He worked as a janitor at Canyon Springs High School, and the teen with whom he had intercourse was a student.
According to North Las Vegas police detectives, Hudson sexually abused the teen on February 29. 8 News Now obtained many Instagram messages obtained by authorities as evidence in the case.
Hudson messaged the youngster at 2:26 p.m., saying he was in “the 900,” a portion of the school, and would “meet you in the 500 [in] a few.”
Nearly two hours later, he responded to the teen, “I’m glad you enjoyed it and so did I.”
According to North Las Vegas police, Hudson chose an area in Canyon Springs that did not have cameras. The adolescent attempted to flee multiple times, but authorities say Hudson instead forced himself on her.
The Instagram chats also suggested Hudson attempted to meet with the teen outside of school hours.
According to an arrest record, the youngster eventually told a school counselor that she had been abused, and the counselor called the police.
Prosecutors in Clark County first charged Hudson with sexual assault with a juvenile under the age of 16, attempted sexual assault with a minor under the age of 16, lewdness with a child under the age of 16, and statutory sexual seduction.
Nonetheless, Hudson pled guilty in Clark County District Court in July to a lesser offense.
“Mr. Hudson today is going to plead guilty to sexual conduct between certain employees and volunteers between school and pupil,” Hudson’s attorney, Robert Arroyo, stated on July 11. “The state will make no recommendation at the rendition of the sentence.”
Hudson will have to register as a sex offender as part of his plea, according to court documents.
“You understand that the range of punishment for this offense is somewhere between one and five years in the Nevada Department of Corrections and there’s a fine of up to $10,000?” Judge Erika Mendoza questioned Hudson.
Hudson answered, “Yes, ma’am.”
