Blue Island Officer Faces Charges After Allegedly Shooting at Chicago Officer in Road Rage Incident, Police Sources Confirm

CHICAGO – After what happened Saturday night, a Blue Island police officer is likely to be charged with road rage.

At around 5 p.m. on Saturday, an off-duty Chicago police officer who is currently on maternity leave was in the passenger seat of a GMC near 47th and Halsted. The GMC was in a small accident with a Toyota, which police say was caused by road rage.

A 47-year-old Blue Island police officer who was not on duty was said to be driving the Toyota. He was the only person in the car.

The Blue Island police officer is said to have pulled out a gun after the crash, driven up next to the GMC, and fired one shot, which hit the passenger side window of the Toyota.

The two cars are thought to have chased each other for a few miles before an Illinois State Police Trooper pulled them both over near 54th and Wentworth. The Blue Island police officer was then arrested.

Sources say that the Blue Island cop was first taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center because he was having chest pain. There were no other injuries recorded.

Since charges have not yet been made, WGN News will not say the name of the Blue Island police officer.
