As part of its 2025 10Best Readers Choice Awards, USA Today recently published a list of the top 10 walkable cities in the United States for tourists. Three New England cities were among the top ten: Boston came in at number five, Burlington, Vermont, and Providence, Rhode Island, at number two. Philadelphia is the city that is the most walkable.

According to USA Today, there are several advantages to visiting a walkable city in the US for tourists who wish to see various sights, take in the local way of life, maintain their health, and most importantly, save money.

According to USA Today, Providence is a modern, quaint, and creative city.

Observe the paintings and public art displayed throughout downtown, go shopping and wander through cobblestone streets, take a stroll along the Providence River and take a picture by the pedestrian bridge, the journal wrote.

The well-known Church Street Marketplace outdoor mall, which has over 100 stores and eateries, is located in Burlington, where people frequently walk and bike, according to USA Today.

According to USA Today, visitors who like to walk across Boston should visit Beacon Hill, the North End, and the Back Bay.

According to the journal, Beacon Hill is a neighborhood that is easily accessible by foot and is home to the actual Cheers, also known as the bar that served as the inspiration for the TV show of the same name.

The Freedom Trail, which came in at number six on the publication’s list of the top ten free attractions in the United States, is well worth seeing when strolling through Boston. Juno Beach, Florida’s Loggerhead Marinelife Center is America’s top free attraction.
