2 Children, 1 Adult Killed in Vicious Crash on I-70 Near Limon, Colorado

LIMON, Colo. — A tragic crash involving a semi-truck and a Subaru Forester claimed the lives of three people, including two children, on Interstate 70 near Limon Wednesday afternoon, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The deadly collision occurred around 2:30 p.m., approximately 13 miles west of Limon, forcing the closure of all eastbound lanes of the interstate for several hours. The highway was fully reopened by 8 p.m.

Initial reports from CSP indicated that four people had died, but an updated statement later confirmed the death toll at three. All the victims were inside the Subaru Forester, which rear-ended a semi-truck hauling a trailer as both vehicles traveled eastbound.

The Subaru was carrying four people in total. The driver survived and was transported to a hospital. Their condition remains unknown. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured, authorities said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The crash caused significant delays for travelers, many of whom were heading home or away for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

“I saw that I-70 was going to be closed or something, so I took a detour all the way out through the road out here,” said driver Sam Addison, who was among many forced to find alternative routes.

Limon, located about 90 miles east of Denver and 90 miles west of the Kansas state line, saw a heavy police and emergency response to the scene.

CSP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
