According to authorities, an MBTA commuter rail train struck and killed a teenager in Worcester on Thursday night.
Around 8 p.m., a number of teenagers trespassed on the Framingham/Worcester Line’s right-of-way in the vicinity of Atlas Street, according to a statement from Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan.
According to Sullivan, preliminary inquiry indicates that one of the group’s 14-year-old girls was on the tracks when she was hit by the train. Due to her injuries, the girl was declared dead.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the deceased’s family and friends on behalf of the Transit Police and the entire MBTA organization,” Sullivan said in the statement. They are in our prayers and thoughts at this unfathomably tough and profound tragedy.
The incident is being looked into by the Worcester County District Attorney’s office and Transit Police detectives. As of Friday morning, there were no new developments, and foul play is not suspected.
