Yoshida leads Red Sox to sweep of Rockies with 10-2 win

BOSTON (AP) — Following shoulder surgery in October, Masataka Yoshida went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI in his season debut. The Boston Red Sox defeated the Colorado Rockies 10-2 on Wednesday night to complete a three-game sweep.

The Red Sox hit home runs from Carlos Narvez, Wilyer Abreu, Romy Gonzalez, and Jarren Duran as they won six straight games, matching a season high.

Lucas Giolito (6-1) pitched six scoreless innings while striking out six batters and allowing four hits and no walks.

Narv Ez launched his ninth home run of the season to start the second inning. In the fifth, Abreu added a two-run homer with two outs.

Following Yoshida’s ground-rule double, Gonzalez hit a two-run homer in the eighth to score him, and Jarren Duran added a three-run blast later in the inning.

In the second and fourth innings, designated hitter Yoshida also singled.

Kyle Farmer of Colorado hit a two-run home run against right-handed reliever Isaiah Campbell in the eighth inning.

The Rockies’ Tyler Freeman singled to start the fourth inning, extending his on-base streak to 23 games, the longest in the major leagues.

Michael Toglia’s double off the wall in left-center gave the Rockies an opportunity to equalize the score with two outs with Freeman on first base in the fourth inning. Instead, the Red Sox cut down Freeman at the plate with a flawless relay from center fielder Duran to shortstop Trevor Story to catcher Narv Ez.

Antonio Senzatela, a right-hander (3-13, 6.60 ERA), went five innings while allowing four runs, extending his major league lead in losses.

RHP Taj Bradley (5-6, 4.79) will face RHP Walker Buehler (6-6, 6.25 ERA) on Thursday as the Red Sox host the Tampa Bay Rays. Before starting a three-game series in Cincinnati, the Rockies get Thursday off.
