Wisconsin Newlyweds Found Dead in Car: Authorities Confirm Homicide-Suicide

Harvard, IL – Authorities have confirmed the tragic deaths of Rachel Dumovich, 29, and Brandon Dumovich, 30, as a homicide-suicide, nearly six weeks after the couple was found in their vehicle. The bodies were discovered just before midnight on October 6 on Route 14 in Harvard, Illinois, a city located about 60 miles north of Chicago.

According to the Harvard Police Department, investigators believe Brandon Dumovich fatally shot Rachel Dumovich before taking his own life. Police emphasized that the incident appears to be isolated, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Discovery of the Tragic Scene

An officer discovered the couple after approaching the car to see if assistance was needed. Brandon was found in the passenger seat, while Rachel was in the driver’s seat. Both had sustained gunshot wounds to the head, and authorities later recovered a firearm inside the vehicle. The car had its hazard lights activated at the time.

At the time of their deaths, the couple lived just a few miles away in Sharon, Wisconsin, a small village of approximately 1,500 residents near the Illinois border.

A Promising Life Cut Short

Rachel and Brandon were days away from celebrating their first wedding anniversary on October 12. The pair had a long history together, having met at age 12 in middle school. High school photos show Brandon in his football uniform alongside Rachel, who was a member of the cheerleading squad.

They remained close friends for 15 years before beginning to date in 2022. Within two years, they were married and living together in Wisconsin.

Rachel, a University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee alumna, worked in human resources, while Brandon had served as a Petty Officer in the United States Navy. He had just celebrated his 30th birthday that weekend. Neither obituary referenced their marriage.

Investigation Ongoing

Police noted that investigators are still reviewing evidence and reports to better understand the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Officials continue to stress that the community is not at risk and that this tragic event was isolated.
