‘We’re starting to believe in that’: Trevor Story on Red Sox identity during 10-game winning streak

Trevor Story take on the Red Sox

: The Red Sox head into the All-Star break riding as high as the team has at any point in 2025. The

4-1

win over the Rays on Sunday carried Boston to a 10-game winning streak and a wild card place in the current playoff standings (trailing the Blue Jays by three games in the American League East).

Beyond the simple metrics of hitting, fielding, and pitching, Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story theorized that the team is beginning to coalesce on the more fundamental level.

“We have more of an identity now,” Story

told

reporters on Sunday. “We’re starting to believe in that. We can win in different ways. I think we’ve shown [that] over this 10-gamer. We can slug or we can win one-run games. We can steal bases. We’re embracing all of that. Playing good defense always has to be a key part of that. I think it all starts with the pitching. They’ve been lights out.”

At 53-45, the All-Star break record represents a major turnaround for a team that trailed by a much wider margin in the standings only a few weeks ago.

Story, who has been with Boston since 2022 but has yet to experience postseason baseball at Fenway Park, was asked why he thinks the team might be able to resist struggling in the second half of the year as has happened in previous (recent) seasons.

“I think that’s been a big part of why we’ve been successful. We’re in the moment. We’re very present, not worried about what we did yesterday.”

“With that mindset, it’s hard to live in the past or in the future. I think that’s a big part of our team and our identity, so I’m excited to start the second half, but first take a few days for sure.”
