Weekend Worthy: Tip your hat to the American cowboy at Stockyards parade

Find out what’s “Weekend Worthy” with our arts & culture newsletter. Sign up for essential Fort Worth-area events and news — free.

Happy Thursday,

When you think about the American West, what imagery comes to mind? Mountain ranges, the transcontinental railroad, horses and, of course, cowboys.

Celebrate the history and heritage of these icons of ranching, roping and riding during the

National Day of the American Cowboy

this Saturday at the Fort Worth Stockyards. The family event features a parade, fiddle showcase, barbecue eating contest, cowboy poetry and a champion rodeo at Cowtown Coliseum.

Back in January, I wrote about the roles Black and brown cowboys have played in preserving the diverse history of rodeos. The story feels relevant for the celebration, give it a read
