During the evening of Monday, a worker at a United States Postal Service (USPS) processing plant in Missouri City, Texas, was fatally shot, and a fellow employee was taken into custody.
At approximately ten o’clock in the evening, the police were dispatched to a processing plant located at 611 Highway 90 Alt in response to reports of a shooting that had taken place before to their arrival.
One of the workers was found dead inside with gunshot wounds, and another worker was taken into custody by the police.
The massive factory was immediately evacuated, and video taken at the scene shows scores of workers standing outside the building as there is a significant presence of law enforcement officers present.
Kevin Hines, a contractor for the United States Postal Service, has been identified as the victim, according to the United States Postal Service.
According to the United States Postal Service (USPS), the suspect has been identified as Derrick Lott, an employee of the USPS who has been charged with murder and is still being held in custody.
During the course of the incident, there were no other injuries reported.
“This was a tragic and senseless act of violence,” U.S. Postal Inspection Service Acting Inspector in Charge Mona Hernandez, Houston Division stated. “Our employees deserve to feel safe when they come to work. Postal inspectors are working tirelessly to ensure justice is served on behalf of Kevin Hines, his family and all of the employees who work in this facility.”
During the current investigation, the United States Postal Service will continue to provide assistance to the Missouri City Police Department.
Both the specifics of how the incident transpired and the location within the building where it took place are unknown at this time.
While an inquiry is being conducted, the facility has temporarily halted the processing of mail. Approximately 14 miles to the southwest of Houston is where the plant is located.

A press briefing was given outside the facility late on Monday night by Dana Carter, an inspector with the Houston Division of the United States Postal Inspection Service. During the meeting, she verified that the shooting had taken place.
“I can confirm that there was one individual involved. That individual is in custody and the community is safe,” Carter stated. “At this time, there is one victim. That person is deceased, and again, this is an active investigation. We are going to continue to work through that process as we get ready to notify next of kin.”
