It rained for hours in the afternoon, making Sunday a wild and rainy day throughout South Florida.
Additionally, part of the terrace ceiling at the University of Miami’s Mahoney Pearson dorms fell. Hunter Shouse, a UM student, was not prepared for this Sunday.
“I woke up from a nap, and basically got a text from my friend saying like, ‘Hey, are your dorms okay?'” he stated to CBS News Miami. “And he said that they got struck by lightning.”
The afternoon rain caused part of the patio ceiling at Shouse’s dorm to collapse. He claimed that the collapse stunned him.
“We had three or four dryers this semester and now a roof collapsed,” Shouse explained.
Thankfully, there were no reported injuries, and UM told CBS News Miami that it is currently evaluating the damage and the reason behind it.
Roads turned into rivers.
In other parts of Miami, streets became streams, and as cars negotiated the flooded road, water rushed in through the doors of Kiki on the River. The roads became rivers and automobiles were stalled out around Northwest 15th Street and 7th Avenue.
Water pelted down on diners at the Versace Mansion on Ocean Drive in South Beach, leaving everyone drenched.
Rain or shine, let’s party!
The intense rain temporarily halted the celebration for attendees of the Ultra Music Festival in Downtown Miami. However, the celebration resumed after a little pause.
“Crappy weather, but you know, it’s still worth it,” Sylvio Prosser, fan of Ultra, stated. “The people, the music, the sounds [and] the setup.”
Another Ultra-goer, Rianna Hasbani, added, “I mean, it kind of sucks because I’d rather it be sunny but it’s fine.” “It’s Ultra Day Three, so it’ll be fun still.”
